Steve pictured with Andrew Flintoff before an international match at Lord's

Steve was Team Psychologist for the England Cricket Team for 12 years culminating in victory over Australia in the 2009 Ashes. His role now is as Leadership Coach which involves providing 1-1 specialist support in developing leadership capability. He also runs the leadership strand of the ECB's Elite Coach Education Programme.

"I'm always trying to think about how we are going to improve and move to the next level or how I am going to get that little bit extra out of a player. Steve Bull has provided excellent advice and support in helping me to do this. During 2004 I was playing badly and I knew I had to do something to regain my form. I started seeing Steve on a one-to-one basis and we worked on techniques to help clear my mind and relax more. I respect his professional approach and his expertise in the psychology of performance."
Michael Vaughan, Captain of the famous Ashes winning side of 2005

Steve's work with the team received considerable attention during 2004 when Ashley Giles spoke publicly about how Steve had helped him overcome a lack of self-belief.

Giles was suffering a run of bad form and he was receiving relentless criticism from not only the media but from England supporters as well. He suffered so badly that before the third Test against New Zealand he seriously considered retiring from the sport.

He is quoted as saying, "There comes a time when you feel no one actually wants you there, so why keep doing it?" In an article published in The Wisden Cricketer magazine in October '04, Giles recalled the meeting he had with Steve Bull during that summer and the impact it had had on him.

"My head was pounding. I just said to him, 'I really need to speak to you'. So we wandered out for a coffee in the afternoon. I know Bully quite well anyway, he's a pretty down-to-earth bloke, and I think even he was surprised at how I was feeling. I got everything out and we chatted about it, reaffirming how good I am and what I have done, the good things I can do for the side'.And that's really been the turning point. Steve Bull has turned it round for me. From that next day the moment the ball was in my hand I felt a different animal."
